To what extent should the UN or U.S.A. and South Korea take North Korea's threat seriously?
Should the US/ROK launch a pre-emptive strike to destroy any nuclear capabilities in North Korea? Would this be ethical?
Should China sever ties with North Korea?
I don't think the US should even take the threats of N.K. seriously. This is because of the history North Korea has had, with all the threats to the west, they still haven't launched a large scale offensive. The leaders of North Korea are rational, they are thinking about their own interests, and starting another war would not be beneficial to them in any way. North Korea has a history of behaving like a little child, begging for the attention of adults in the world, how are they going to launch a war when the famine and poverty in North Korea is so bad, parents are resorting to cannibalism to survive. The real action the west should be considering is to somehow silence North Korea, because there are countries in the world taking this threat seriously, and it could create international tension because of leaders arguing how to respond to this.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think that China should really sever ties with North Korea at this point, I feel as though it might make the problem worse and could potentially increase the realness of the threats being given. I think the threats should be taken somewhat seriously and I think it would be important to be ready to handle them, even if it is not broadcasted and made public, I think it would be important to keep somesort of "plan" in the background.
ReplyDelete1.I don't think the UN or USA should take the threats from North Korea seriously because I believe Kim Jong-un is smart enough and values his power enough to understand it would not be beneficial to attempt any kind of attack as he won't have any power when they are wiped out from a superpower like the US.
ReplyDelete2.I believe it would not be beneficial to launch a pre-emptive strike to destroy their nuclear capabilities because in order for this to be successful they would have to wipe out all nuclear sites, which would not only most likely kill many innocent civilians, but have the potential to harm the environment around them and further aggravate an already angry leader.
3.I believe that China should not sever ties with North Korea because losing this strong ally could cause them to strike anyone, including China, out of anger or fear.
The American media have been proclaiming that the threats of North Korea are moot. However the reality of this is that North Korea is still truly a problem. North Korea's army exists. North Korean nukes exist. The continual sanctions that have been placed on North Korea are crippling the country, which already has other issues such as a high poverty rate. These sanctions are possible instigators for war, as North Korea can see they have nothing else to lose. The United States should seek to properly prepare itself for war if it arises.
ReplyDeleteMany people also believe that North Korea and its leaders are insane, especially for trying to aggravate a war with a world superpower -- which also has the largest military in the world. However Einstein's definition of insanity is "doing the same task over and over, and expecting a different result." By taking this definition of insanity into account North Korea is quite possibly sane, in thinking they can win a war against the U.S. As the United States have been defeated before i.e. The Vietnam war. Again the United States should take precautions.
DeleteI believe that China and the rest of the world should kept disassociating themselves with North Korea through more sanctions. This will keep North Korea pressured and will eventually lead for them to cave to the United Nations demands
ReplyDeleteNorth Korea, in my opinion, is trying to cause a war. They have made several threats to powerful countries, such as the US, that could simply eliminate all of North Korea and their people. North Korea is often viewed as being run by crazy people and that the country alone is always at war with themselves. I think China should tread carefully but keep their ties with North Korea, if they were to cut them it could cause the threats to become real. However at the moment the US should not be too concerned with North Korea's threats. Their history shows they are good at making threats but they simply remain threats and not actions. I think the UK and the US should form a plan to gain control of North Korea so that future threats would not be an issue. Although taking control may be a power struggle, North Korea is becoming more than a nuisance globally.
