Do you believe with the FDA and the Obama administration's decision to sell the  morning after pill to such a young age group (15 - 17 yrs)? Do you believe the FDA made the pill available just to increase profit?

  1. The profit is definitely one of the main reasons, after all, it is the reason for almost all large companies to make any decisions. I am not really sure if it is the only reason because there is a demand in the States for the younger population and if they need the pill, they probably have the understanding they need before using the pill. Even though I am not in favor of this decision, I can see good reasons for Obama administration to pass this decision. But I do agree what Sarah said in class today that the media has been focusing on the issue too much so I am afraid that it will negatively influence the teenagers in the States.

  2. I believe this is a rational decision. Despite what some people may say, there is the need for underage girl to have an easy access to those pills. I mean, they have all sorts of methods that could prevent them from pregnant such as using condoms, I believe if those methods are allowed, then the pills are allowed as well. Everything exists for a certain reason, it is true that it has bad effects on women especially teenage girls, but think about it from another perspective, if those who didn’t use any protection or failed to protect don’t have an easy access to those pills, then what would happen? More and more teenage women are created. In terms of whether FDA only concerns about money, my answer is mostly but not all. All business men pursue profits, but on the other hand, in a free country like states, there is no point of restricting anything.
