Although there are apparent benefits to building the Ketstone XL pipeline, I don't think it is worth the hassle for a few reasons. There already exists a keystone pipeline that delivers fuel to the main consumer regions of the U.S., at least in the East. Further extending this pipeline would cost excessive amounts of resources for maintenance since a small plate disturbance could cause massive damages, which are costly to fix. The keystone pipeline works sufficiently without need of extending it; this way unnecessary costs are spared for more relevant issues such as health care.
Extending the pipeline has its pros and cons, but I think that the disadvantages over-weigh the advantages. Sure, it would create jobs, but at what cost and for how long? The environment would be greatly impacted by the change; it further increase climate change and destroys ecosystems. The the builders are there only until the construction is complete, so its only a temporary job. Like Emma, i too am against the extension of the keystone XL pipeline.
Yes. It is good for the economy and for North America. It all helps move us closer to self-sufficiency for its energy needs. Sure there are environmental concerns, but what can benefit the US should take priority. Canada's environment is a convern as is any pipeline rupture, consider the historical track record of pipelines and their cleanup - when required. We should not let environmentalist and politicians determine economic progress.
I agree with Winston and Emma on that building the Ketstone XL pipeline has more disadvantages than advantages. There is already a keystone pipeline that is working just fine. The great amount of money has to be put into maintenance which can be used for better purposes. The job positions (half million) created seem to be attractive, however are only temporary. The damage to the environment it will cause cannot be recovered and therefore it is not a good deal.
