  1. I believe that Kim Jung Un used this solidify his own power. After Kim Jung Il died, he needed to preceed his legacy as a dictator, thus i beleive that he used that to protray his power to the people of N korea and the international community.

    1. I would agree with you ELEE...he is trying to distinguish himself from his father in order to create a new identity for his leadership style and personality.

  2. The general population of North Korea doesn't have internet access, therefore they are showered with North Korean propaganda about the west because that's all they're allowed to see. Kim Jong-Un has a similar motive with the release of this video, first to attack the west and secondly, to make sure that citizens haven't forgotten North Korea is ruled by him, but North Korea doesn't normally release propaganda they create, so the second meaning behind this must be to warn the west of the impending danger of North Korea, to intimidate the west, if you will. It shows a famous North Korean rocket going into space(the last North Korean rocket was known as the "KwangMyungSong-3" this video shows a rocket called the "KwangMyungSong-21" going into space, foreshadowing North Korea's future space program), as well as missiles striking America and uniting Korea as one, under the dictatorship of the North. Kim Jong-Un wants the world to know North Korea isn't far behind in technology, showing this with the launch of the rocket "KwangMyungSung-21" into space, as well as maybe a window into his mind about what his ideal world would be like, and giving the west a question "How far will Kim Jong-Un go to achieve this image?". I believe the main goal of Kim Jong-Un is to send the west the message that North Korea isn't a country to be taken lightly.

  3. I think that Kim Jung-Un released this video to appeal to the citizen's sense of nationalism, in an attempt to solidify the nation and to strengthen his control. But I felt that the propaganda wasn’t very successful; the music doesn’t really fit and my main impression of the video was that the special effects looked really fake. Also, the video mainly featured a rocket flying around Earth, which I doubt is important to the starving citizens of North Korea.

  4. North Korea is perhaps the most restricted country on Earth, and the government of North Korea want it remain so, thus the perfect way of “unite” the nation is through the means of propaganda. North Korea has one of the strictest laws on Earth, prohibiting all other media except the ones government runs. To further unite itself, North Korea uses heavy propaganda, such as the legend of their great leaders, the fact that the entire world is dying of starvation and they should be grateful for having something to eat, and the most infamous of the bunch, the dream of ruling and uniting the entire world under the command of the great Kim Jong-Un. Not surprisingly this propaganda is created for such use, but it is unusual that the government of North Korea actually released one of their creations; perhaps the video generated such thought provoking response in North Korea, they decided to release it to the world, however, whether the release is accidental or intentional, North Korea did indeed expressed its strong aspiration to the world.

  5. I believe that this is a prelude to what is to come. North Korea has recently declared the 1953 armistice invalid and has also cut all direct phone lines to N.K. The phone line was a quick easy way of communication between the two sides and they severed it. With the armistice technically invalid, the two countries are technically at war, and Kim Jong Un seems to be pushing towards a physical one too. Now this does not mean that they will go to war, seeing as the armistice was nullified on several occasions in the past as well. The people of N.K. don't seem to agree with him though. They either just don't care, or in some cases have even protested. It's hard to say what this means, but so far it's not looking good.
